omelette du fromage!
<<February 24, 2005 - 3:24 am>>

i've been opening up to my boss more than ever this semester. i'm not sure what it is. maybe it's that there are a lot of time stretches where it's just us two. and i don't think it's been like that before.

so my boss now knows i'm married. she knows some of the story of why it didn't work out. she knows he recently wanted to try again. and she knows i'm also seeing someone else. usually the people i work with don't know so much personal information. but it's strange.. watching us slowly exchange more and more personal information.

and so today.. there's a newish girl at work, who rather bothers me, but that's besides the point. but the thing that surprised me today was when i started hearing creole come out of her mouth. because she's white. and i was further surprised when i was informed that she was haitian. and here i thought she just knew creole from having haitian friends.. or something like that.

so my boss told me a story about this new girl. the new girl works at the circulation desk and these two haitian girls apparently weren't pleased with her work because one said to the other in creole, "this girl doesn't know what she's doing." and the new girl said to them as they were walking away, "thank you, have a nice night" in creole.

very nice. gotta love shit like that.

language is a fucking weapon sometimes.

but anyway.. that reminded me of another story, and i told my boss about it. the first part of it being that i used to see a haitian guy. of course she was interested in that because she's currently involved with a haitian, and she perked right up when i told her, "oh really?" [she's puerto rican herself.]

so yes, ana, i used to see a haitian guy. and he and his brother were over at my place one time. and the brother was being shy and talking to my exboyfriend in creole. i could figure out that his brother was trying to get him to ask me for some cheese because he kept saying "fromage." but he was too shy too ask me himself. so while they talked amongst themselves in creole, i was just sitting there like 'i know what you guys are talking about.'

creole is similar to french. if you know french, you can pick up on things in creole. i was just lucky because "fromage" is one of the five french words i know. and the only reason i know about the word "fromage" is because of dexter's laboratory.

seriously. gotta love it when cartoons can teach you things that are useful for the rest of your life.

and fromage.. c'mon, man. the three of us were cheese fanatics. i love cheese. and i love anyone who loves cheese. i should know cheese in every single goddamn language.
