baby dilemma

Upon attempting to purchase a gift for one of my best friends' little girl, who is turning one, I found myself faced with an odd dilemma for the very first time..

What kind of clothes do you put on a one-year old kid??

I mean, okay.. she put on the invitation for the birthday party that her little girl wears size 18 months. That's simple enough. But, then.. what kind of clothes do you give a one-year old? Do you give her those little one-piece outfits that strap at the crotch? Or do you buy separates-- like, say, a cute top and some pants or something? Or maybe her mother likes to dress her all frilly and pretty. If it were me, I'm not doing that shit to my kids. I'll buy them normal clothes.. not the strappy crotch things..

But.. I dunno.. I haven't seen the kid since she was 3 months. I don't know how her mommy likes to dress her.. and that's not something I want to interfere with.

Okay, so she suggested learning books. But there's another dilemma. I have no idea what level of a learning stage a one-year old is!! Can it talk??!! All I know is that it can say "Da Da." And isn't that typical.. Already, the little girl asking for her Da Da.. :p

But, obviously, I'm not around kids much at all. I wouldn't know the first thing of what to do with one.

The invitation also suggested Disney movies. The little girl's mother already has two Disney movies of mine: Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid. Both movies that I like and am actually considering asking to have back..

I dunno.. We'll see..
